Do you know who customized them?
Nope. But hit me up if you want the listing.
I know Hanpen in Korea does them both matte and glossy. I donāt know if others do.
Theyāre on mercari secondary for not bad prices.
This could be Pentelās exclusive āstep upā from the Orenz Nero. It doesnāt have to be a clone of the original mechanism, particularly if better designs are possible (more reliable and lasting, while cheaper to make). Iād be so stoked to see a QX v2. I also wonder if the Kuru Toga Dive mechanism has been studied by Pentel⦠and maybe their own version could be made for the hypothetical QX v2 (and of course, an ON/OFF switch for those who donāt care for auto lead rotation).
Some time has passed since the days I would rant about dreaming of owning a QX, and I have to clarify a detail at this point. An opportunity cropped up last year (thanks to the ever-supporting @DarkwingDuck ) to obtain a specimen with very minimal cosmetic imperfections (also, no box, nor papers), and I seized it as quickly as I could, as I knew there would not have been another chance like that to get one of the models of my dreams, at that price point.
I still have to āunderstandā this giant of pencil history, and I have spent too little time with the item to properly explore its quirks and personality traits, but one thing stands out so far: it is an amazing drafting tool, and an extra-special item to handle. It exudes confidence and presence, and somehow forces you to question everything you do and think while using it to leave a trace on paper. In this sense, it might be the polar opposite of the Hi-Uni 5050 FF-Matic: for any single angle the latter conforms to my style seamlessly, further enhancing and highlighting my general approach at using a pencil, the former has a complementary angle where it fights for its life to reaffirm the fact that the pencil is a protagonist of the action as much as the hand: a partner, rather than a servant.
So @cytherian , I confirm, any re-issue of the QX would make the world of pencil enthusiasts roar, as very many specimens in my collection are able to evoke the same feelings when in use.
Thatās fantastic, Leonov. Finding your dream pencil⦠is quite an experience that I imagine makes all other acquisitions since feel somehow a little lacking.
What baffles me is that the Pentel QX PN305 comes in a box with wording thatās very supportive of the English speaking market and yet⦠from what Iāve learned thus far, it was never sold in the USA or in the UK (or EU for that matter).
The grip is rather nicely echoed in the Orenz Nero.
Whatās odd is that the eraser cap is screwed down over the eraser and since the body remains the same diameter from tip to end, thereās no means of posting the friction-fit front end protective cap onto the back. And that means⦠chances of loss increase.
So is the weight and body material very much like the Orenz Nero?
