The color is the best. Pentel’s really early colors were not exactly eye-popping.

I just find the “PENTEL” styling soooo meta relevant today with all the street culture designs popularized by Virgil Abloh (RIP) for Nike with “AIR”… “FOAM” etc printed over sneaker parts.

Given how inconsistent they can be about things, I find it kind of remarkable they’ve been so consistent with their color codes through the years.

They have been pretty consistent with the colors. The earliest pencils had A for white(ish) instead of black. Sometimes the colors are broadly defined. The Tradio models used numbers instead of letters for the colors. Thankfully that did not spread to other models.

I guess I am out of touch since I was completely unaware of any of this. Even Pentel’s use of the quotes feels like they are saying that it is supposed to be something, but they know that it is not really.
