Here is my video on the Pentel 11. I cover the different versions and the influences in the P200 series.
Thank you you to everyone who loaned pictures and shared knowledge!
I’ll make this one public tomorrow but wanted to post a sneak peek for you.
Hope you like it
EDIT: I am working on making some edits. Adding in a note about the erasers and replacing the bit that @nimrodd Jimmy mentioned.
I would disagree that the first generation came with a white eraser. This is one of the easiest things to change in a pencil (after the lead). All of the earliest Pentel pencils that I have seen have had green erasers.
One thing I saw was the “early” P209 had a gen 5 or 6 internals. The early P200 internals up to gen 4 had a straight tube with a press-fit metal baseplate at the base of the spring.
I have always gone on the working theory that Pentel never throws anything out. This led to some weird pairings of old style pocket clips with newer style pencils. This seemed to have been fairly common.
I sort of obsessed over the 11 for a period of time. Some of the ones I have seen have had the grip grooves full of gunk. It was a good idea to eventually drop if in favor of the P200 pencils.
I am working on making some edits. Adding in a note about the erasers and replacing the bit that Jimmy mentioned. Thanks @knocktype11 and @nimrodd for pointing that out.
That did not look like a Pentel eraser. Wrong metal bezel,
As for @knocktype11 comments about the clips, the original P205 pencils I have have the old style clips (PENTEL down the clip), plus they started out with 2mm tips.
Actually, looking at my early Pentel 11 (now that I am at home), they both have the white eraser with that odd band.
Now that I think about it, I believe this was the first Pentel to have an eraser, so it makes sense that they may have outsourced the erasers at first, then switched to their own eraser with the later version of the 11 and other pencils.
