Pentel 11 Variants

@nimrodd Jimmy has identified an early and late version of the 11. With the main differences being the tips, pocket clips. I have noticed some differences with the internal mechanism.

Early (flat clip) fat internal mech with threads exposed to the end. I have read this is threaded into the pencil body but mine won’t budge.

Here is an image i found of the early internal mechanism. (following the link on the Pentel 11 page in Jimmy’s book).

I have a later 11 (bent/modern pocket clip) fat internal mech with threads exposed to the end.

The redesigned S305 has a thinner mechanism and a smooth part before the threads

Anyway @DarkwingDuck Allen has a bunch of 11’s so I thought I’d ask him if his 11’s were able to be taken apart. He sent this picture - which shows a later 11 (bent clip) but with the modernized S305 internal mechs. Is this a 3rd version of the 11?

One thing I did notice that’s also different than any other that I’ve seen is the sliding white plastic spacer sleeve on the tube.
Definitely interesting

Let me dig out my 11s. I haven’t tried taking any apart before…

The wider mechanism does unscrew but it doesn’t want to pull out of the barrel.

You need to unscrew it the other way so it goes inside the barrel. When you can no longer grasp it, grab the back end and keep turning until you clear the threads, than pull it out the back

I’ve tried both ways - even with a small vice, they are really jammed so tight I can’t grip them enough without damaging the threads. I’ve even tried to grasp the small non-threaded part but its too small for my pliers or vise (when I have the protective padding in place.)

I guess they’re defective….
Only thing to do with them now is get rid of them…
I guess I’ll take them for you

My green (early) 11 has a funky eraser cap. Can anyone ID this? I thought it may be a Japanese character but AI is not recognizing anything.
Any ideas about this cap?

This is a 0.9 - do you think that says “.9”?

First picture the 9 is sideways
Second picture the 9 is upside down

Thanks

That’s a raggedy looking 9 - machine must have been out of alignment that day.

Or it may be the very rare .6 mm version

Yes, that’s right
The elusive…

They are most well known for being incapable of disassembly!
