Pelikan Graphos

These belonged to the grandfather of a great friend of mine, she was cleaning up his house and found this set.

Any ideas on how to clean It up correctly and (hopefully) restore and remove the rust from the tips without damaging It?

They are still not in my possession, these were the photos she sent.

I think there are professional ultrasonic cleaning machines that are used to ‘shake off’ the detritus. Seen them used to repair severely gunked up mechanical watch parts… not sure what kind of solution is best for dried-up India ink.

As per solutions, there are specific cleaning fluids developed precisely to dissolve the ink, but I assume even a drop of the soap used to clean dishes, plates and cutlery (by hand) should work.

I know rOtring made such cleaning fluids, and possibly also Standardgraph, but I suspect it is just soap and water.

Regarding the barrel and the cap of the Graphos, I would pay particular attention to the resin used, to avoid permanent damages to the finish: older models used to be much more delicate, with materials similar to bakelite, and that can be seriously ruined by the wrong detergent, e.g. alcohol-based ones.

There is a certain number of NOS nibs available for purchase, and some shops even have secret stashes of these; if you clean the barrel alone, and find it useless to risk destroying the nibs, the pen can be revived quite easily. It may be tougher to find the black plastic/resin bit regulating the flow of ink, but those can be obtained as well.
