New Macro Lens!

I recently picked up a macro lens attachment for my phone. I am happy with the results so far.

Can’t you see the atoms? What a disappointment…

It’s amazing, now you will be required to take pics of any parts of all your pencils… Cool!

 wow that looks great!

Just a tip—with these lenses, you will notice a good bit of distortion around the edges, especially when there’s a lot going on in the frame. To minimize that, try focusing on a single object or focal point in the middle of the shot. A single pencil in the shot would be best to avoid the distortion/warping/fish eye.

Thanks, I will try that.
I did notice some considerable fish-eye and optical bending when held at certain angles.

Yeah, that’s peripheral aberration and it’s quite common with add-on lens modifiers.

The trick with these things is when your phone has a 2, 3, or even 4 lens cluster. Which one is to be used? In some cases, software in the phone utilizes multiple lenses, so with only one being magnified it can throw off the processing. Anyway, shots look good here!

I have a small 1" diameter lens that I pulled from an old camera that had broken beyond repair. I use it as a mini hand-held loupe. It does a pretty decent job and I’ve actually used it with my phone. But yeah, hard to avoid that peripheral aberration.

There’s so many options out there now. A lot of them aren’t strongly rated, and those that are tend to be a lot more expensive.

I spotted this one which has an interesting option of allowing magnification selection. 100x 150x or 200x. Or, you can get a discount on buying all 3. It’s one mount that accepts different lens modules.

Apparently, a good bit cheaper to buy on AliExpress
