đź“Ť New Feature: Users Map is Live! Add Your Location!

Hey everyone,

Thanks to @Pdunc67’s relentless nagging, moaning, and general refusal to let this idea die, I’ve finally added a Users Map feature to the site. You’ll now see a new “Users Map” item in the left-hand or mobile hamburger navigation. This lets us all see where members of the Knockology community are located (roughly. Don’t get creepy).

To show up on the map, you’ll need to add a location to your profile.
It’s totally optional, but it could be fun to see how spread out we all are.

:wrench: How to Add Your Location:

  1. Go to your profile.
  2. Click Edit Profile.
  3. Scroll all the way down to the bottom.
  4. Enter something in the “Map Location” field.

Use a general location you’re comfortable with:

  • “Austin, Texas” (what I put)
  • “Texas”
  • “USA”
  • “Mars” (if you’re shy)

:prohibited: Please don’t enter your exact address. That’s just weird. Keep it vague-ish.

Anyway, shoutout to @Pdunc67 for the persistent push, and I hope y’all enjoy seeing where your fellow Knockologists are chilling.

I often have to go to BH for work. I think we can arrange a day, I could take some mechanical pencils to test.

I figured it would be just a static push-pin style map, but wow… nicely interactive! Very cool. Thomas, was this a library plug-in offered with the site software? Or did you have to find a 3rd party for it?

It was a plugin I found in GitHub that I implemented here. Not difficult at all. Way easier than the nimrodd Pentel ID Book software I built from scratch.
