Name that PENCIL or PEN [9]

Now there’s an idea! Why does nobody make a pencil with a sim extractor end?

Funnily enough, the device these were used with does remind me a bit of the old PalmPilot PDA (anyone remember those?)

Are these ends used with slide adding machines? And do these pencils have “Addiator” printed on the barrels?

Yes, I remember the Palm PDAs – I had four :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

YESSSS!

and YESSSS!

(thank goodness I can stop renaming all my photos “mystery_” now)

We have a winner!

Somehow I didn’t expect these to be so hard to guess, although the identity of the second maker is definitely a challenge (more later).

Phew! I expect everyone is looking forward to a more readily-guessable episode of Name that PENCIL or PEN next time, like the proLix Drafticon QZ-9207u (Limited Edition) or something.

Thank you, @Alan for such a fascinating choice! It’s the first time I’ve come across such a pair of devices Addiators!

These are really amazing pieces! The typeface used for “ADDIATOR” on the second one is beautiful.

Who’s the manufacturer of the other pencil? And why is the 2.2 mm lead significant?

Thanks for joining in and for all the excellent guesses - it’s been a bit of a journey of discovery for me as well, as these Addiator pencils only came back to my attention because of an earlier post on this forum. As for the maker of the Addiator slider pencil with the 2.2 mm lead, I will need to write a short post on how this all fits into the wider Sparstift story.

@Gunther I’m glad you also appreciate the lettering on the Penkala stylus, it has a real Jugendstil/Vienna Secession look to it. I’m sure it must be based on an early 1900s typeface - I will try to look it up when I have the time.

Yes, that’s how the font looks to me too. I will also try to find out more!

I’d never heard of an “Addiator” before. So cool that they made a pencil with a tool end to use one.

Honestly, I never thought that the idea of combining and adding machine scriber with a mechanical pencil was a viable solution (even though, in hindsight, it is quite obvious).

I really like the form factor of those clearing pins, and just to get one of those early metal scribers I bought an Addifix machine some time ago; I would love to use its “pencil” in my EDC as a bonus pointing device, but it is the only one I have, so I am afraid of loosing it — and right now, my budget is seriously constrained, so I will postpone a further purchase.

Great trip in the world of super-specialised pencils! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

You’re most welcome, I’m glad it was fun!

There’s plenty more super-specialised pencils where they came from…

Maybe I missed this detail, or it was not revealed in the end. What is the story here?

I wrote it today, but still need to type it up and take a couple of extra photos.
