We’ll see what this does, but I’ve got a bunch of yellowed DPD355 clear clips and caps soaking in some hydrogen peroxide sitting in front of a black light. As it’s warmed up, they get so many bubbles on them they rise to the top.
Im anxious to see the results.
How long are you thinking they need to sit? Hours? Days?
I’ve done this on a smaller scale (1 cap, in a shot glass), leaving it outside on a sunny (high UV) day. Because of the bubbles, I tried to anchor them to keep them submerged.
It worked a little. Some yellowing was reduced and the plastic overall looked a bit clearer and cleaner. With mine, I would say it was worth it but not to the degree I had hoped.
In the end I bought a whole box of pristine 355s and switched out the worst lids.
I’m very keen to see your results!
Not sure, but it’s only a 3% solution. I’ve had them in it for about 2 days now.
that’s a noticeable difference! Looks brand new
Mate, these look like NOS!
Do you have any ‘before’ pics for comparison?
Great job! Looks awesome! If I use a higher percentage solution for a longer period of time, will it restore this one and put it back together at the same time?
Tragedy! I received a shipment with caps that looked like that a couple of years ago. It was a sad day. The barrels went in the spare parts box.
In the pics above, the two side by side - left one was cleaned, right one wasn’t.
Here are some more, top one is cleaned, bottom ones aren’t:
Ok cool. Your starting point doesn’t look too bad. Do you have any badly yellowed caps?
Nothing super bad like that broken one of @SlideRules’… just dingy looking. Unfortunately I didn’t think about grabbing a before pic and just tossed them all into the peroxide. Here are some pics from the Mercari postings:
Ah ok. The batch you alerted me to. Thanks for replying.
These are so much better than some of the caps that came on my 359s.
Still, it might be worth it if I leave them for a few days like you did.
Got to give that peroxide treatment a go on my Quick Color 0.9s…
Just wanted to share that my Mickey DPD355 has arrived and joined the family. Unless there is a Goofy, that makes my Disney Clic sub-collection complete.
Can you post a picture of the reunited family?
I will. I took a quick one earlier but it’s heavily shadowed so I’ll take one tomorrow with better lighting.
