Appearances can be deceiving. When I first saw the wide “maw” on the Colleen Jib double-knocks… I just about puked in my mouth. Why’d they make them so open? I pictured dust and debris getting in there easily. All of the other double-knocks I’d seen had more sensible tip openings.
But then I finally got one in hand. Yes, a Colleen Jib is not built to the same exact standard as a ¥1000 PILOT or Pentel. Yet, they’re pretty reasonably solid. Then once you get over that comically wide maw, you begin to appreciate the mechanism… which locks in place with no really noticeable tip wobble, mind you (if you’ve got a good example).
The “Rubber Glip” (grip), model has a more sensible opening. But, something about the grip reminded me of a low end ¥500 OHTO Gripper. I dismissed them at first. Then I managed to get one. And they’re actually pretty solid and the rubber is a nice material. You don’t see the ones without labeling on them very much. Most of the time they have “DOUBLE KNOCK” on the side. And some say “Rubber Glip.” I managed to get just one… and it didn’t have a very good clip:
As you can see, the clip is rusted and pitted. I ended up applying some aluminum tape on it to stifle the eyesore.

What .mm is the bottom right pencil in the last image?
I have the red and green double knock of the piece on the right. The design of the three to the left of the farthest right has been impossible for me to find/attain. It is such an attractive MP.
I’ll trade you my red double knock rubber “glip” I have for your damaged “wide maw”…?
Oh, when I was talking about “wide maw” I meant the standard Colleen Jib. The “rubber glip” (grip) series has a smaller opening.
The “glip” model I have… is a colorway design I’ve not seen appear often at all and I kind of like the late 1970’s styling of the font.
Obscure trivia… first time I ever heard “maw” was in the context of an original Star Trek episode, “The Doomsday Machine.”
DECKER: Well, it’s miles long, with a maw that could swallow a dozen starships. It destroys planets, chops them into rubble.

Your last comment before this one is the no I was referring to. Seemingly zero angle on the nose before it is knocked. So cool.
Edit: and I know exactly what episode you are referencing

People seem to be interested in this pencil, but in my view, it’s the least remarkable Colleen Jib of all. This same pencil was white labeled by Fuji Corona and probably 1 or 2 more smaller brands. It’s not unique at all (unlike Colleen’s double-knocks), and is therefore unremarkable in my view.
Also, this pencil has a serious design flaw with the plastic in the grip area; almost every specimen you’ll find is cracked in that joint.

I’m talking about this one
Though my versions of the other have not cracked.
