A fun pair I found today. Mitsukan is very fringe territory for me, but they turn up here in brick and mortar stores in Taiwan.
The 272S could win awards for “most bell-shaped tip” and the 221 could win awards for “most rear weighted” with its big clip and ridiculously chonky plunger button. The rubber bumper gaskets on both are a head-scratcher.
Still, I like their attitude — 80’s neo-industrial. Kindof reminds me of Tom Dixon Cog series.
Prices of 1000 and 1500 put them in the ‘design you pay for’ class of pencils, but their construction is nothing to write home about. The fluted hard rubber barrels don’t carry any luxury ethos.
These were found at an old but still relevant Faber-Castell store in Datong District, Taipei. The store has a few older items like these, but has primarily new stock items from FC and a few other brands including the most extensive Cross pens lineup I have ever seen. Next time I will take a pic of the Cross displays…
