I’ve been looking into getting some pencil storage boxes/organisers for my small collection and I’d like your recommendations. I’ve been looking around but it’s hard to find items that would fit my needs. Maybe just my keywords suck lol
I’d like a flat, stackable set of boxes like this one (or see the image below). EU sellers/companies are preferred. They should be relatively narrow per pencil to not waste horizontal space. And being stackable is mandatory as the vertical space is that I want to utilise. These cases would be in my drawer so they have to be easily opened, and not have drawers like a small cabinet. The total available area I have for them is around 30cm width, 17cm length and 9,5cm height. I’m planning to store about 33-40 pencils in total. The separators between each slot are a must have as well
It doesn’t have to be super cheap like the example above, but it shouldn’t be overly luxurious. For example I can find a number of customisable wooden cabinets with glass tops and drawers, but they’re too expensive and I really don’t need something like those. I want just simple boxes that I can store on a small footprint
The example above is almost perfect imho but I’d like to see what else you guys would recommend. It would be great if the case had some foam or padding for each pencil but it’s not that important imho because I wouldn’t move these cases around at all. If you can suggest a separate foam solution I’d appreciate it too
This tray looks like a great idea, and being able to 3D print more of them yourself makes it really convenient to expand the quantity whenever you need.
One thing to be careful about, though, is that some 3D printing materials can degrade and eventually become brittle or produce fine particles over time.
As you can see, there are small plastic ribs that are at either end of each spot for a pen. The distance between these ribs is approximately 14.5 cm. Also, the slots allow for pens with a body circumference of slightly less than 12 mm.
The interior length is approximately 15.8 mm without the ribs. You could hypothetically shave these ribs down a little bit to give more room without the need for slanting but that may affect the structural integrity. It probably would not affect too much but I have not tried it.
Overall, I really like these for expandable storage of items that I do not keep out in a regular display case. My only problem with it is only allows for longer pens. However, for $15 on Amazon, I will overlook this.
