Looking for a .5 mechanical

I have a. Bunch of mechanical pencils and leaseholders I am needing a .5

I like food quality pencils. I have some rotring 600 2.0 rapid pro caran dache fixpencil 2.0 Staedtler 925 34 tk Fine vario. I am caught between a Staedtler 925 35, rotring 600 or 500. I am turned off by the cracked barrel issue on the 600 a bit. I am not sure if this is still an issue. If it weren’t I would probably go for that. I could also just get a p205, but it’s kind of chintzy in a way. Any help would be great.

I can’t speak to those

But

Bottom picture, bottom row I have a red Rotring 600 excellent condition

If you’re in the USA I’ll send it to you for $18 including shipping

I did see Amazon has new black ones for like $20 including shipping so I can’t offer much better but it’s an idea for minimal investment

Also WELCOME!!! Glad you’re here regardless!

Do the 600s still have the issue where the barrels are cracking?

I got one a few months ago that didn’t have the issue.

How would you stack the 500 vs 600 vs Staedtler 925 35 up for drawing

I remember reading something from @amjacobs7 about enjoying a Rotring 600.

I also recall reading alot about how others seem to like the Rotring 800 for drawing and /or the Rotring 600 2mm for drawing.

Scroll up and down this thread

For actual drawing use I’d recommend the rOtring 500 over the 600, as the full metal one is too heavy for prolonged use, has the cracking issue, and also the weight distribution is farther back making it tiring on the hand. The Staedtler 925-25/35 are also good - either of those options should serve you fine. Go with what you like.

If it were up to me, however, I’d probably choose one of the original form factors that the rOtring 500 descends from, like the Alvin Draft-matic or Koh-i-Noor Rapidomatic.

What is the better made pencil?

This is a bit like asking which is better between McDonalds and Burger King, it’s up to personal preference. Both are made to exacting standards and have no real faults with their production quality.
