TY…have a few especially when attending college. Others thought I was a goober for using fountain pen and mechanical pencil when taking notes. There were very few computers in the early '80’s that one could afford, so I remember turning in a term paper written in pencil- my instructor scoffed at. I had to type on a typewriter if you can believe where most young folks today do not have a clue what it is was like before computers and cell phones.
I have used, have so many MP’s (+FP’s) and there are so many outstanding examples out there how do you choose? Back in the day I was fond of just plain 'ol Autopoint with 1.1 lead if your speaking of MP’s. My great grandmothers GP Eversharp 1.1mm, Parker Vac 1.1mm MP’s come to mind then of course coming through the years mostly Pentel, Pilot with .05, .07 and 0.9mm leads.
Probably my favorite modern pencil is the “Uni Kuru-Toga” with Pilot 4B lead. I have 5.6mm, 3.2mm, 2.0mm, 1.3mm and of course the dozens of vintage 1.1mm mechanical pencils.
I buy all of my vintage lead from Jonathan Veley at Legendary Lead
A lot of young people look at me like a deer in head lights when instead of using a mid-high end, modern MP- I whip out my 1920’s-'30’s Parker Duofold (hard rubber), Wahl-Eversharp, etc. I was asked 1 time why I was using an orange crayon to write with ![]()
Because of the nerve damage in my hands due to being injured on active duty I really prefer the 1.1 and 1.3mm lead pencils as it improves my chaotic block handwriting. I no longer am able to write in cursive anymore. I like fountain pens bc you do not have to press, just painting on paper with words. 3B and 4B leads allow me the same characteristic as I write A LOT ![]()
I really get excited seeing the younger generation use vintage writing instuments and hand write…no computer, spell check; old skool!
, keep a journal, write someone a letter.
Am really enjoying the forum and thanks for some great advice ![]()
