Hey everyone!
Have you heard about the new mechanical pencil called Solid Write from a Japanese brand called LACONIC?
Yes! This seemed to have come out around the same time I read about the Kitera LiFT+. It seems somewhat similar to the Staedtler Hexagonal? I was pleased that LiFT+ did not have a rubber coatingâŚ
u/alvision668 has done a review of the Laconic on Reddit. Based on the close-ups of the clutch, eraser flange and button structure, it would seem to confirm a high degree of similarity to the Staedtler Hexagonal.
I love how it has a hexagonal ring, but no clip attached. I find it brave and beautiful.
No pocket clip = instant love.
I only have a minor issue: the frigging price! 180 $ plus shipping on Ebay! is it a European thing, or the price is out of the roof everywhere? For that figure, I think Iâd prefer finding some old-school drafter in NOS condition, or some even rarer piece with minor imperfectionsâŚ
How funny. When I see no clip included, I have the opposite reaction to you! I have an MP on me at all times, and most of my shirt pockets I use for work, do not have a dedicated pen slot to house them in, which means the clip comes in handy to house on the shirt fabric! I would not enjoy no clip lol.
âWe have determined that a clip is not necessary when using this mechanical pencil.â
I think this is faulty logic? Or⌠it implies that the makers do not see the Laconic SS as anything but a deskbound object. Opens up the possibility of a âPORTABLE WRITEâ, I guess?
It is odd that they only view the clip as a sort of stand to prevent rolling.
Exactly. I love Apple products (mostly) but this has shades of the same kind of hubris up in the design department. I hope itâs just nuance that got lost in translation.
Honestly (not the topic but it needs to be said)
I have an iPhone and itâs truly just a better operating system. Android phones beat Apple phones all around except resale value.
My work phone is a Galaxy Z Fold 5 and it is amazing, itâs a far far superior phone to the iPhone but the operating system is so much less convenient.
I switched to iPhone maybe 5 or 6 years ago but truly I wish I didnât get locked in to it.
Hopefully Apple wakes up and realizes that they need to make an actual new phone. Not just a better skin for their Schmidt mechanism. ![]()
Itâs 180.00$?!?!?!
Why???
I was interested until I saw this amountâŚ. AgainâŚ. Why?
Itâs not. I think he saw those scam Japanese Mercari listing reposters on eBay - you can buy one on Amazon for $35.
Let us know if it sheds its coat like the Hexa?
I believe the Hex to be one of the most overrated M.P. available todayâŚ. It feels cheap to me, rattles and has a poor âknockingâ feel. Overall, zero love for it.
Did I simply get a wonky one??
What is there to enjoy?
I havenât gone for any of the other Hex limiteds after the first 3. I think itâs meant to be Staedtlerâs take on the Kaweco Special trope: a basic pencil done âextra rightâ. But instead, the Hex has issues with aesthetics and functionality. My own biggest beef is the way the button gets misaligned with the body after a couple of presses because the interface is circular.
Wholeheartedly agree.
The 925-35 0.3mm midnight blue was THE modern MP that created my interest as a whole. Iâm surprised they landed on This as their âflagshipâ.
I purchased the initial grey/silver version. Maybe everyoneâs hype influenced my intense criticism, but I revisit it every now and then as objectively as possible and reach the same conclusion (Iâm also scared to let it near any other pencils for fear of the rumors surrounding itâs quality).
Itâs a huge ![]()
