As pencil collectors, I think we’ve all ended up with a small mountain of spare lead over the years.
Here’s an older photo of just the unique pieces in my stash (it’s grown quite a bit since then!).
I have duplictes of several of these.
This got me thinking… would anyone be interested in a Knockology Lead Exchange / Trade program?
The idea is simple: we each list the extra or duplicate leads we have (manufacturer, grade, diameter, brand, length, quantity—whatever details matter), and then we can trade with each other so everyone ends up with the leads they actually want/need in their collection.
For eaxmple I recently purchased a KIN 5635 and it came with (A FULL) box of Pentel 0.5 2H. While I do love 2H, I don’t need a lifetime supply at this point in my life.
Your post kind of made me think of it, that, and the 5 minutes I spent yesterday looking for a tube of 0.4 2B - lost in the drawer where I store my lead. lol
Great idea…I have so much 2 mm lead that I send boxes along with many of the pencils I sell. Trading would be great..Lots of Eagle, KIN, JS ( although that seems covered), AWF, some Criterium, old NOS Dixon , etc.. Come on down…
When I look at my mountain of leads, I realise that a significant portion of them are ones that I really like and that I bought far too many of for fear that they would suddenly disappear (Which, of course, has not happened to date.)
I like this idea! My standard lead cores drawer ad my thin lead boxes are currently at their maximum capacity, and quite frankly I can let go of some duplicates for some other samples: when I bought all this lead I had clearly miscalculated the amount I could need in one or two lifetimes, but turns out it is precisely what I needed to jump on this bandwagon of fun.
Please count me in the program; will write down a list of the duplicates in terms of boxes and single cores…
I’m going to sort through this pile and list my duplicates but first I have to finish the video I’m working on.
But don’t wait on me! If you guys have a list ready please go ahead and post it. I’ll try to have mine ready by tomorrow.
