The vintage Pentel P1035 comes in two versions, barely differentiated by a detail on the eraser cap: some have a convex top (like the current pencil) and others have a concave. Imho, the concave version gives the pencil a touch of discreet elegance.
Getting one of these rare Kerry pencils with a concave cap is very easy. Take a regular P1035 (preferably vintage) and drop it perpendicular to the ground from a height of over 1.5 meters, cap-down. The pencil should hit the ground at an exact 90° angle for best results.
Well, these past few weeks I’ve been destroying pencils like there’s no tomorrow, and since I decided to use my favorite pencils, those have been the most affected. After modifying the cap of my 1977’s P1035, bad luck befell my beloved Pilot Palmarin, which broke when I took it to bed to write for a while. I put it aside and I guess I fell asleep and rolled over.
There there my friend, there there….
Our friends are with us for either a reason, season, or lifetime.
Didn’t “The Byrds” write a song about this exactly?
