The start of 2024 saw a lowering of currency exchange strength for the Japanese Yen. And it just kept sinking… until June of 2024 when it hit an all time low, at least in exchange for the US Dollar and EU Dollar.
And of course that meant some terrific values for those of us buying on YAJ, Mercari JP, and Amazon JP. The peak of ¥164 JPY to $1 USD was glorious. I got in a few auction wins near that time. But sadly… the trend was not only going to cease… it didn’t flatten out. It dropped like a rock. From 164 to 143 in a month.
Anyway, August seemed to level off a bit, but then September has suffered more JPY strength… until after midway, looks like a weakening of the JPY is trending again. It’ll be interesting to see if a repeat of December 2023 onward happens again.
