トップチャック = “top chuck”
Top chuck mechanism with less core residue
Knock type
Shaft sheath: Black dye etching, stainless steel
Case used: B5
I don’t see any reference to the pattern of the black dye etching… so basically, this description could be the same for the black stripe clutch point model as well.
I’ve not been seeing these appear much lately. Most recent seller tried to move one for ¥24000 but it didn’t sell. Relisted for ¥18000… sold.
If any Knockologists have one, raise your hand.

I think ‘Top Chuck’ was basically what Pilot called the ‘Clutch Point’ before it was called ‘Clutch Point’. Descriptive term before the marketing department got roped in.

Saw an eBay listing for one of these where the nose cone and front metal part of the mechanism were cut open! Rather curious. It also explains why those machined metal nose cones are rather heavy for their comparative size. They’re “excavated” internally to fit the mechanism, so the walls can get very thick in some segments.

It’s a small fraction of the world that would even want it. It kind of takes “demonstrator” to a whole other level.
Unrelated to this model but I was quite curious about the clutch point series and recently bought this item which proudly displays the nose cross-section! I loved the graphic design and how retro it looks. One of the packages I will actually prefer to preserve.
