Some pencils take years to find.
The right model. The right finish. The one that finally fills the gap in a collection. We hunt them down, learn their stories, and notice details most people would never think to look for.
Then we put them in a drawer.
These pieces deserve proper storage. They need protection. Some would be difficult, or impossible, to replace.
But dammit, we want to see them.
I’ve been working on a better ending to that story.
Introducing FOV. Field of View.
An illuminated, modular display system designed with UV protection. For a collection worth seeing, and worth protecting.
This is something I’ve wanted to share with Knockology for a long time. It grew out of my own collection, and the wish to give these pieces a place where I could keep them protected, organized, and in view every day.
FOV is my answer in development. Clean cases. Carefully placed light. Holders that let the pencils take center stage. Something you’d be proud to put on your desk and happy to live with in your home.
Because “just one more” needs somewhere to go.
We all know how a collection grows. A new discovery. A missing finish. One more pencil we absolutely weren’t going to buy.
Your display should have room for that story to continue. Start with one case. Add another when you need it. Extend across a desk or build a grid on the wall, with each addition becoming part of the same system.

The first designs are FOV 12 and FOV 24, for 12 or 24 instruments. Both are being developed around that idea:
- At home on a desk or wall. A low desktop dock tilts the case back for viewing. The same case can move to a wall-mounted rail.
- More cases. Less cable clutter. Matching docks connect side by side, and wall rails support expanding grids. Concealed connections are designed to share a power feed across the installation.
- Light you can make your own. Adjustable brightness and light warmth, from a gentle evening glow to a more neutral view of your collection.
- Protection with a view. A clear UV-protective cover, with adjustable holders and soft silicone inserts being developed to fit different pencil barrels.
Pencils first. A bigger picture ahead.
Mechanical pencils are where this begins. They’re why we’re here, and they’re the collection I want to get this right for first.
Pens, fountain pens, coins, stamps, cards, and other collectibles are part of the longer-term plan. The vision is to develop interchangeable holders and inserts for different collections, all within the same modular display family.
Imagine your pencils in one case, fountain pens beside them, and coins or cards in another. Each with the right support for what it holds, together on the same desk or wall.
Those versions will come in stages. First, get the pencil system right. Then build on it.
The first look. And the start of the journey.
I’m currently working through manufacturing quotes and the next steps toward prototypes. Bringing this to production will take time, with plenty of testing and refinement along the way. The likely path is a Kickstarter once the design, costs, and manufacturing plan are ready. For now, I’m excited to share the beginning and let you follow its progress.
I’ve put together a short reveal that shows where this is going. I’d love for you to take a look:

If you’d like to follow along, sign up for updates on the site. I’ll share development milestones, prototype progress, and launch news along the way.
I wanted this community to see it first. You understand why a pencil can be worth the years it took to find it.
Your collection is too good to keep in a drawer.
