Hi everyone! I’ve been reading the forum for the past couple months, but I figured it was time to say hey. Here’s a bit of my background when it comes to mechanical pencils:
The first design I really enjoyed was a blue Pentel Quicker Clicker that I found on the ground in middle school. The Quicker Clicker was the only pencil I used for years, especially for how much lead you could pack into that thing!
I discovered knurling a few years later with the Pentel Graphgear 500, but it wasn’t until my junior year, when I got this Alvin Draft/matic, that I really caught the bug. I used that pencil through high school and into college. So much so that I wore off all the text on the body, but even now it’s still a workhorse of a pencil. Eventually, I got this Rotring 600, which introduced me to the world of full metal mechanical pencils.
My all-time favorite design, and the pencil that I carried through most of college, was this Pentel PMG. I stumbled into this vintage piece because I was looking for a travel-safe 0.3mm pencil that could have the tip protected, and it’s been a rabbit hole ever since.
Now it’s been 10 years of collecting pieces here and there, finding new cool designs and crossing grails off my list. And thanks to DWD here for helping me cross one of my latest grails, the TK-matic L, off the list.
What were your first mechanical pencils that got you interested in the hobby?
