I found this pen at a flea market. It seems to take some sort of cartridges which it came with, though I didn’t dare remove the thing it came with. It doesn’t appear to write.

a listing on ebay says on the cap PENTEL R3 JAPAN, mine says PENTEL JAPAN only does this mean it’s a later model?
There are many variations of the Pentel Rolling Writer through the decades. The exact model number is not etched onto the pen, and is only found in catalogs. You need an MG8 refill, which is still being produced.
