Handling matte surfaces on pencils

for those with slight OCD here’s 2 ways I handle wiping down matte pencils and keeping them matte.

  1. distilled water (ie your hot breath) and a microfiber
  2. matte detailer, I recommend muc off (use it on anything matte) and microfiber

muc off from my experience is my goto matte detailer. does leave any residue or any kind of shine, cleans up easy. I’ve used this on my matte carbon bikes and ive tried them all and this just cleans up the best and leaves nothing behind other than nice matte finish.

here are some before and after (looks even better on hand) on some hh80r (thanks to @DarkwingDuck for making my wallet a lot lighter again lol)

1. left detailed with muc / right before detailing

2. both with detailed

3. left detailed with muc / right before detailing

4. both detailed

hope some of you found this useful.

For matte plastic materials, I use a silver polishing cloth.

It might not be the standard method, but it works well for general cleaning and removing light scratches.

how’s the results. just dry wiping?

Dry wiping is enough, but you need to apply quite a bit of pressure.

I haven’t tried using polishing compounds yet, but I’m interested in the one you mentioned. I’ll see how I can get it near where I live.

if you have a cycling shop that carrys muc off, they usually stock it in hand.

id say most high quality matte detailer should be fine. I’ve just had the best results with muc off, it just cleans up well, leaves no mess or residue.
