Wow, Yosshy was your nemesis in that one.

He frequently resells on YAJ and Mercari.
Given what you’d seen in it… that was a big gamble for that closing price! But I think you lucked out, because of the fountain pens.

I had an unfair advantage because buyee was running a 15% off final value coupon for auctions closing over 50,000¥. But yes, I was up against yosshy!
Still an excellent price!
Look at this auction; how much do you think it will end up selling for?
I am guessing anything above 300,000¥

I don’t have a good idea because I don’t collect ballpoint/fountain pens, so I wouldn’t be able to tell you if there are any rare or valuable pieces visible in this lot.
I think it also depends a lot on who is in the bidding at the final hour.
I do know that a lot of fountain pens are worth much more than mechanical pencils, and at 221 items, I wouldn’t be surprised if this auction does end up going up to an average of 1000+ yen per item for a total of ~200k jpy.
Not all are expensive in this lot, but there too many Mont Blancs
Since Yosshy has a YAJ account, I’ll bet you that he contacted the seller directly for additional information and possible photos that the seller didn’t add to the auction. That’s the only rationale I can see for him bidding this high. He’d confirmed a number of sought after writing instruments. Also, since he can sell on YAJ, he can easily make back a great deal of money.
I caught an exchange on X recently. A Japanese poster was wondering out loud about who ‘Yosshy’ was and apparently he answered thru an alt account. Turns out he was a collector who is now a licensed antique dealer. Strictly business.
Excellent detective work, @drifand!
