I believe got a great deal on a Rotring 400 last week, the rebranded double push model. Originally I wanted a double push model but since this is practically the same thing I’m totally fine with it. I might actually prefer this aesthetically because the shiny “Rotring 400” text above the red ring looks really neat imho
According to the seller’s description it was most likely never used. And as far as I can tell that’s true: there are no marks of use at all, no scratches, nothing. It looks totally brand new which I’m really happy about. Interestingly the seller said there’s a small problem on the barrel just below the side button. It seemed like as if something small and sharp hit the pencil barrel and caused a slight bump, or perhaps a manufacturing error. But when I opened the box it wasn’t there. Not a single thing is visible where it “should be”. So I guess it must have been some piece of dust or dirt and not physical damage. Unexpected “better than advertised” moment lol
It came in its original packaging I’m pretty sure, including a plastic sliding box which doubles as a carry case for me. This fits other pencils too, even slightly thicker and longer models like my Pentel GraphGear 1000
The only real issue I have is the double push mechanism feeling scratchy and has quite a bit of resistance that I’ve been malding over at The rOtring Tikky topic lol. And the lead unfortunately breaks sometimes when I retract the barrel using the side button. As far as I’ve researched it seems like a somewhat common issue with designs like this. Most notably the Luddite Postdraw is what I’ve seen people complain about for the same reason. There’s a simple solution tho: gently hold the end cap with one finger while pressing the side button. This way the internal barrel retracts slowly without a harsh impact. I do the same with the Pentel because the spring inside is absurdly strong, makes me feel like it could launch the pencil into space lol
