Hey-o
I’m trying to replace an old Waterman plastic tip roller for a rollerball pen from the 90s. The original refill is very similar to those wonderful Sakura MIcron PN pens (plastic nib)
Waterman refill 10.9mm x 6mm (no ref) — it is close to a close to a G2 or European Style
Any idea if these are still available? Or if it is possible to find something similar to a plastic nib refill?
I replaced it with a Schmidt fine-liner (which is similar to Montblanc Fine-Liner refill but I’m not sure they’re compatible) and it’s working fine. Trouble with these particular FLs is that they have a spring-loaded tip. They do their job all right and the cushioning is actually kind of cool but I’m not sure they’re ideal.
The cushioning actually gives you an harder and more scratchy writing experience, because while you write you use different pressures and speeds and because the tip responds to that it will also change the writing angle. It works very well if you use it in a fixed upright position like you do with a technical pen, but it gets scratchy otherwise.
I don’t mind it too much in the end because I also find that skips and imperfections give more character to the writing or to a drawing but I would definitely prefer something more akin to a felt tip or a straight plastic tip like the Sakura.
Any ideas for alternative refills?
What is your experience with fine-liners?
Can anyone in Japan confirm if OHTO discontinued their Fude refills (F-300)? Any alternatives?
Too many questions! But it would be nice if we could put up a list of possible Fine-Liner and Felt-tip or Fude refills. So far all I got is:
- SCHMIDT FineLiner 6040 (cushioned fiber tip)
- OHTO Fude F-300 (Discontinued)
Recent finds (not tested):
- CARAN D’ACHE Fiber Tip
- SCHMIDT Fasermine Fiber Tip (?)
- KOKUYO Fine Writer WP-R100
- SCHNEIDER Topliner 970
