Having been a quiet reader in the community early on, this post was also familiar and proved very helpful when researching TK-matic as a collecting target.

Two TK-matic L examples from different production periods were identified: one made in West Germany, and another produced after reunification.

The later production version includes a lead grade indicator sticker. This same type of sticker can also be found on later TK-matic L and TK-matic models.

During photography, differences were observed not only in eraser color, but also in the surface pattern of the cap—something that was already mentioned at the beginning of another related article. Interestingly, when attempting to swap the two rear caps, they did not fit properly. The resistance was significant, and forcing the installation did not seem advisable.

The TK-matic examples on hand fortunately retain their original boxes and manuals. A notable difference is that the manual accompanying the version with the lead grade indicator sticker includes printed diagrams for replacing the sticker.

These pieces were acquired relatively early in the collecting journey. Today, finding suitable prices has become increasingly difficult. Three auctions for TK-matic in different colors were missed—coincidentally all during winter. Each time red, black, or blue variants appeared, it coincided with periods when work and investment demands required liquidity, leading to repeated missed opportunities. Hopefully, this streak can be broken soon.

Perhaps this will serve as a birthday wish for the year.

Aside from the Automac and the TK-Matic, what are some other pencils with a removable clutch assembly?

I don’t think I’ve come across one that doesn’t.

Edit: I take that back - the PD Classic v1 line does not come apart… at least non-destructively.

Hello, i see that everyone is very knowledgeable about this pen. I’m trying to sell mine (silver one) but I’ve got absolutely no idea of what is the price. I don’t have the box. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance.

Depends on the condition and how quickly you wanted to sell it.

In great condition you should expect $120-$140

Cleaning up the grip helps brighten up the condition.

If you wanted to sell it fast, I feel like it would sell quickly at $80

The eraser commonly speaks to the condition of the pencil. Make sure you show it in your pictures.

The right alphamatic is a version before the diversification into bronce and titanium took place. I always tended to think that this version is a bronce. It‘s a bit difficult to decide, since the colors differ widely.

The titanium is coated with TiO like the black version of Porsche cylindrical pencil.
