There is a fundamental problem with using MUJI clear acrylic shelves to store pens and pencils: too much height or headroom that makes any tray or separator inefficient.

If you remove the paper, won’t the pencils scratch against each other?

At this point, every time I look at some new storage/display conceit, I’m even more convinced a flat file is the ultimate answer for any MP collection.

A full-size flat file with 8 drawers would hold at least 2400 pencils. (And I think about 1800 display slots is enough to cover the ¥500-and-up history of MPs.)

I agree. Some years ago we abandoned a drawing cabinet at work. In retrospective I should have taken it.
