There didn’t seem to be much interest in the A W Faber 9800SGs I posted so here’s something very different!
It sold before I listed it and it’s the only one of its type I’ve ever seen. It has a unique twist-lock mechanism with a really long threaded, jawed collet. Because the jaws are so firm it’s really necessary to insert the lead from the inside. The ferrule is unthreaded with a tapered internal chamfer which faces onto the curve of the minaret styled nose thereby clamping the 2mm lead which was probably already tight enough.
The threaded nose is made from polished steel while the barrel and ferrules are aluminium. All in all it’s a very aesthetically pleasing bit of engineering from Dietzgen.
It’s be interesting to hear if anyone has one of these or particularly if there’s a single-ended version in captivity.
