I’ve just registered that some of you create pencils that you think should’ve been made. I’ve read the thread about fixing the yellowing on the clear and maybe even white pencils and it occurred to me that I wished there were a way to fix the white markings on some of my pencils to look more complete, if not really good, where they’ve rubbed a bit. Do you know of a way? I’ve imagined a paint brush and a steady hand, which I don’t have, or some sort of factory type sticker. I don’t know.
I’ve used a china pencil to fill in faded imprints. It’s not permanent, in fact it wipes off a little too easily, but it also doesn’t harm the pencil if some diehard collector later prefers you hadn’t modified it.
Most recently applied to a TK-matic:
If you zoom in, I didn’t do the greatest job. The imprint is worn and shallow, and there are a lot of scratches, so it’s a bit of work to get it just right. I did that back in September and took photos; I can’t remember if I tried again later to do a better job.
If you use a paint brush you’ll need a steadier hand than I have. Maybe a very fine paint pen would work.
I think it looks good. I’m afraid to try, but I guess if it were with an easily cleanable paint then no harm done.
I need to try this on some of my way-old Eagle turquoise leadholders… they have this beautiful art deco eagle emblem and it’s a shame the silver paint has worn off.
