Brass external spring mechanical pencils I made

I designed and machine steampunk looking mechanical pencils.
They are made with only metal parts, and use a small piece from a P200.

Same internals as the Drückbleistift? Looks the same to me…

No the internals are my own design, except for the clutch piece from a P200 that I couldn’t make.

It is very attractive and eye-catching and the proportions seem coherent. Let me ask you something with all sincerity, is a pencil silent when making strokes on paper?

Thanks, I would say it is silent when writing, except for the scratch of the lead of course. One of the reasons I wanted to make this pencil was because I was annoyed that my rOtring 800 had a little slop in the mechanism that would wiggle when writing.
The lead advancement is a little more difficult to make completely smooth and silent - some of my pencils have more of a click and some are smoother.

Exactly, I’m referring to the noise the lead makes when scratching against the paper, which can vary greatly from one pencil to another (using the same brand and hardness of lead, of course). Compared for example the Kerry and the Techniclick, both from Pentel.

I can’t hear any noticeable difference in lead noise from my rOtring 800 to my pencil, maybe it’s a slightly lower frequency because of the greater mass but I could be imagining it. Now I’m curious, are there really pencils that are silent?

Personally, I like to hear a click. That way, I don’t have to look at the pencil to see if it advanced the lead. If I don’t hear a click, I have to look to see if there is an issue.

Some silent pencils (for writing in a zombie apocalypse): Eagle 20 (by Eagle), Insignia (Parker), Pentel Kerry.

Your models are very attractive, the close grooves one especially catches my attention, due to the design of the pencil tip.

I am working through some extreme work demands currently but have plans to begin collecting data on this exact thing. I plan to measure the pencils in my collection to see how loud the knock is and if it has a rattle.
