BOXY Flicker and more

Finally got around to taking a shot of the BOXY FLICKER series. Codenamed uni5-1060 and fully equipped to take on any graphite adventures in the cyber realms of the 1990s!! I’d started with just one, a blue and thought “that’s all I need while I hunt for other cool BOXY designs.” But it turned around and bit me hard, and wouldn’t let go until I’d obtained the red, green and yellow as well. I really need to make a group shot with the rest of the FLICKER family.

Less flashy but still fun are what I used to call the BOXY ‘2-ring grip’. Actual model number is M5-201, and the highlight is definitely the BOXY relief molded deep into the side of the body. I believe there’s also a blue color, which I have yet to obtain.

This is one of the few models that I believe were made for BOXY first, before being adapted to the regular Uni line-up. In this case, the funky BOXY relief was blanked out and remolded in various pastel tints as the M5-201CR COLOR series.

Was Flicker the first MP featuring the tip-out-and-lock mechanism? Was the Freematic before or after Flicker?

I believe the non-Boxy uni5-760 Flicker came out in 1980, and that should make it the first drop-lock eraser MP.

The Freematic applies a similar mechanism to deploy the pencil tip? Well… the Platinum Unknock did it first as a ballpoint, and I think it was from the 1970s…

@Pdunc67 - here’s how the ‘silver’ looks different from the ‘gold’ and the ‘bronze’

Fun alignment of the stickers. The blue body is my fave.
