BOXY Files: Posh Friend of THE STICK

BOXY The STICK and BOXY Special were covered in a previous post, and since then I think I’ve found the perfect matching pen from Mitsubishi. Only catch is… it’s not a BOXY.

Pen Timer SW-120 is a combination twist ballpoint with a built-in quartz watch in the thick end of things. The D1 refill in my example is dated to 1982. I will probably never insert any battery cells for fear of acid corrosion after I forget about it for a year or two in storage.

The main thing of note for the SW-120 is the amazing wavy guilloche (machine turned) texture on the chromed surfaces. Really reminds me of fine detailing on mechanical watch faces…

The other thing I found out is that this design of the Pen Timer has a more expensive version: the SW-300 is gold plated and has an even more intricate barleycorn guilloche pattern—kinda like what you might find on a YOL or maybe classic Caran D’Ache Ecridor models. Lastly, the pamphlet indicates that the round finial can be customized to show a logo of your choice.
