It’s the return of Honda City Turbo and Mitsubishi BOXY! In blue!
I already had the BOXY pieces, either in blue or with blue markings, but I wasn’t sure I could find a miniature CITY in a nice matching shade. In the end, it was brighter than the BOXY case but a close match in vibrancy to the ‘SHORTY’ pencil. For the curious, the mini car is a Tomica ‘Limited Neo Vintage’ in 1/64.
Strangely enough, the side profile of the car printed on the pen case is almost an exact size match for the Tomica… like a spillover effect from Japan’s laws requiring depictions of snacks on packages to be sized realistically to actual product inside?
Here are the details of the BOXY items, all likely circa 1982 when the car was in production:
• BOXY Honda City case
• BOXY M5-205 City Turbo – part of the ‘SHORTY’ format pencils
• BOXY uni 5-508 City Turbo in steel with blue printed markings, including the all-important ‘Design approved by HONDA’
I love the amount of detailing Tomica put into this premium line, but it seems the trade off is no opening doors, hoods or hatches. I also have the pen case in a shade of olive green but I have no pens or pencils to go with it, and no Tomica in that shade either… Moving on to the next theme
