Berol double knock

I picked this up a couple of years ago on eBay because I hadn’t seen one before, and I’ve yet to find any information on this model either. Has anyone else seen one of these before?

The inner mechanism is nearly identical to that of the Pentel PSD5, except that it is slightly shorter and has no date code; as mentioned in another thread about the PSD5 it was noted that it has a date code pattern that doesn’t match any other Pentel. Whatever reason there was for that, it wasn’t duplicated for Berol.

The inner mechanism isn’t just similar, it is constructed identically, even down to the curiously threaded plastic on brass double knock gearing (Berol on top, Pentel on bottom).

And with a front half that looks so much like H-1005, I am surprised it doesn’t have Pilot internals. Berol keeping us on our toes.

I got one of these in the Berol rounded tubular packaging. It is called RET-5. That’s all I have.

My first thought was “that’s a white-labeled H-1005.”

Absolutely love this pencil and gotta have one now
