He gets it! He’s one of us.
Wow – great to see this!
I’d seen Adam’s video about the yellow Papermate cheap-o mechanical pencil that he loves. And it’s an interesting watch. He made a key note about how the pencil was the same reliable writing instrument for so many years, until Papermate changed it. Cheapened it, if you can believe that. He was pretty pissed. So he made an effort to buy up a bunch of the older models.
Adam prefers the yellow Papermate because it’s so cheap and so reliable. He doesn’t have to worry about them. He can break them, lose them, and no problem–there’s always more. But I’d thought to myself… I know this guy. I know how he appreciates fine tools. He needs to get a really nice mechanical pencil that’s not expensive, but more durable and well designed over the Papermate… and stick with it. Care for it. Be mindful so he doesn’t ruin or lose it. And the Pentel SMASH would probably be a good choice. I even posted a comment to his video about it. That was a long while back. I don’t know if he ever read it. But so cool to see he has one now!
I also have to say… if you don’t mind my waxing on about him… is that while Myth Busters has been over since about 8 years ago, Adam has been doing these periodic videos that are semi-interactive. He reads comments and then reacts to them in subsequent videos. But aside from delving into all sorts of questions about the famed Myth Busters series, Adam talks about a lot of things, doing it very earnestly and genuinely. He’s humble, thoughtful, hilariously self-deprecating, and rather candid about a lot of ideas, opinions, and perspectives. I love the way he thinks. And he usually seems to come up with fascinating things to talk about. He’s such a great guy. You can tell that if you had the chance to sit down with him and shoot the breeze over iced tea or beer, he’d be a blast. So I really encourage anyone who appreciates “curious humanity,” to give him a watch.
We should invite him to the Knockolgy Writing and Drawing Apparatus Appreciation Summit in 2025.
Is that for real?
He likes Bundaberg Ginger Beer - the diet version. Just in case you ever get to sit down for a drink.
Also, try it out if you ever get a chance. Great on its own or with a nip or two of scotch.
Bundaberg (non-diet) is pretty good but lacks ‘bite’. Fantastic on hot summer days.
I love ginger beer. Fever Tree makes a good one. So does “Q”.
Reed’s Extra Ginger Beer is nice and spicy, but unfortunately they add too much sugar.
Left a comment on the video
No, but it should be.
Oh, how great that it has been decided to implement and hold the Knockolgy Drawing and Writing Device Appreciation Summit in 2025, I will let everyone know.
I clipped out a segment from the video where Adam Savage talks about design. HERE
