A W Faber Castell - 9401-9407, Missing 9406

It’s been quite quiet in here for a few days so it must be time to post a few more leadholders.

This time it’s a bunch of USA Fabers that I haven’t seen elsewhere. I got them in their original store display box which has been great sitting for 20 years on my shelf, very colourful too.

Interestingly the display pack says ‘Locktite’ but the leadholders don’t! Also I don’t have a 9406 but do have (did have, now mostly sold) 9401, 9402, 9403, 9404, 9405 & 9407.

Has anyone seen these before? In particular the 9406. What colour might it be, assuming it exists? Maybe black? There’s still a couple for sale, just listed if anyone is interested. A W Faber & Faber Castell

How about that! Brilliant. Do you have the whole range?

Just this one that is numbered like yours, I am pretty sure the “locktite” barreled ones are all numbered 9400 no matter the color.

I got really lucky doing a sale/trade combo with someone and they showed me this and I fell in love with the deep red.

Knowing there’s an orange, white, blue, and yellow…. I may start trying to gather them, idk

I keep him here…

Any way you want it…
evidently needed to keep the design staff busy…

Yes, it’s crazy how many different imprints A W Faber created for essentially the same leadholder.

They must have been thinking of ways to confound future generations of collectors! Sometimes they simply moved the same old imprint down the barrel a few millimetres like this pic, same pencil different imprint.

Your pics there all have either “Sure-Grip” or “Locktite” none I see are blank.

My favorite are the “Accurate” versions AWF did for K+E…classic K+E..never made their own pencils…ever ( except maybe the Speedraft unicorns…)

… and maybe a Paragon or two. But they could also just be a paint job on another brand, except that one of them is really, really long for drawing on your neighbour’s drawing.

Yup, all came out of the same factory. (AWF) ..look at the detail on the noses…I also have a twin point from cousin Johann with the exact same detail…incestuous clan…at least for a while…(probably wanted to fill a long space in a drafting tool kit..there are a few from the 1890’s with the twin point as part of the set)
