45 Sailors in a row

Assortment 1: Classic and Executive Style Designs, L–R:
ProColor 300 Uchumizu BP & sharp - I fell in love with the clear blue design and wound up getting both the ballpoint and sharp. Sadly, it is a modern era Sailor, so the clutch is plastic.
Reglus sharp - My first Sailor purchase. It was pricy at 3980 yen but it was the cheapest at the time. Plastic clutch :-/
Profit clear BP
Parabola Sharp in silver - only discovered its name recently. A nice modern design.
Parabola Sharp & BP in gunmetal
Hoscal BP (black accent) & sharp (red accent) - brass clutch!
• ‘Trident’ sharp - this was cross-licensed with Sheaffer pens.
Cut-In BP - also cross-licensed with Sheaffer
• ‘Rolling’ BP - I think Sailor applied product names quite loosely. ‘Rolling’ was their brand of rollerball pens.
Shuttle 3000 rollerball in metallic grey & gold - funky ‘tip-up’ design ala Pilot Vanishing Point
Liquid-Ball Shuttle 300 - the all-plastic cheapie version

Assortment 2: Colorful and Contemporary Designs, L–R:
• ‘Tip-knock’ BP - works like a Platinum Bee Line ballpoint. You push the tip into the writing surface to extend the refill tip. Push it in to click and retract. Fascinating mechanism but prone to damage and very finicky with refill formats.
F-1 JR BP yellow & black - lower cost version with mostly plastic parts
F-1 JR SUS sharp - mid-tier version with steel upper
F-1 SP & BP black, green, blue - main version with mostly steel parts
F-1 Rolling No. 500 - Capless rollerball with F-1 styling. Press the red rubber ball in the clip to retract.
F-1 JR Rolling No. 500 - plastic body version
Bikini sharp - with the wondrous disconnected center-tube
PENCIL sharp - Sailor’s take on the ubiquitous 100-yen hex body MP for school kids
Cartridge sharp in pink & black - co-produced with Sheaffer and remarkably complex mechanism mainly to deal with fragile new-fangled 0.5 and 0.3 leads. Very prone to damage.
Mach-2 500E duo-pen - SF hi-tech styling for a BP and MP on either end.

Assortment 3: Drafting and Modern Styles, L–R:
N31 drafters 0.7mm in black, red, turquoise - I love the silhouette of these slender 12-sided designs, especially the long knock / eraser caps
N31 drafters 0.5mm in blue, white
Mulshan (Marshan?) duo-pen in blue, green, white, black - I got these when I was in my Smash-lookalike hunting phase
Drawing Sharp 1000 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 - doppelgangers of the Uchida C Type
Style Color BP in navy - simple design with a sleek binder clip
Style Color GP in silver BP & black sharp - later version with a translucent rubber grip

So nice to see all these in one picture! I’ve always liked the pocket clips on the F-1

The F-1 ballpoints are ‘perfect’ for matching up with Pilot’s ‘lollipop’ color-circle clip model

The F-1 models look very cool!

They’re also very similar to the Zebra F301

Beware listings with a pair of F-1 in ‘unusual colors’. I bought a set expecting ‘orange’… but turns out they were sun-damaged: ‘orange’ on the top and ‘pink’ on the bottom. A clue is if the plastic slip cover is more yellow than clear. Be wary if the seller doesn’t show them out of the packaging.

But where’s the bottle of rum to go with all these sailors?

Dave, I need access to your library of witty magazine clippings!

Unfortunately I stopped subscribing to the magazine that was the main source.
