Missed this earlier. Welcome, Victor! I too had seen your earlier Faber Castell Alphamatic review and I’m glad to see you might revisit it with an update / revision.
The Alphamatics have always drawn relatively tough bidding competition, even 10~15 years ago. But occasionally you can find a sleeper deal. I’d been meaning to pick up a “weinrot” (burgundy) colored one. Something about that shade is what I’d call luscious. I’m not going to try collecting them all… bidding competition is still pretty fierce for the bronze, titanium, and anthracite. And forget about the executives!
My one and only Alphamatic is a gray one. It’s a nice dark gray shade that looks almost black in some lighting, and then a more medium kind of gray in bright light.
I think it was the original font used when the alpha-matic was released. If you look at the images I posted above, you can see in the 1986 print ad that same font on what looks to be the Bronce version and here on a Titanium version:
That’s a really great question. I just tested it out and yes… actually, you can swap nose cones between the alphamatic and TK-matic and they BOTH work!
