I was thinking the same thing. A few days ago I was looking through an old rOtring catalog and saw the 900 and my first thought was the Metaphys.

I wasn’t intending on getting another locus, but I was intrigued by the white body and when a 2mm lead holder appeared, I went for it. Not a bad score for ¥3,400.
It’s lightly used, but I can tell that there’s some micro chipping on some of the edging (need a loupe to see it) and the base of the nose cone isn’t perfectly flat, creating a very tiny gap when fully seated. But, minor nitpicking as unmagnified it looks really good. First time I got a Metaphys with the original box.
I still think that ballpoint with the black rubber bellows (a.k.a. SMASH button) looks a little better.
Incidentally, the clip has a very tiny gap when at rest, so it’s not touching the body. It does come into contact when the back end is pressed, but it doesn’t seem to exhibit much friction. I don’t foresee much wear to occur. But… one could always affix a tiny strip of protective tape as a cautionary measure.
EDIT: Well, I was remiss in not having given it a closer look. In fact, if you look closely in the photo provided you can see some slight marks. That’s traces of the clip! Matte black paint that came off slightly. That rubbed off with no problem… which is an advantage with the glossy white. The matte silver will likely be harder to clean up. And yes, it’s a bit pesky how the 2mm clip rotates all around, so you’d have to apply a tape band all around the barrel to ward off unwanted rubbing.
