This 0.5mm "Lerad Holder" is actually a leadholder!

Thank you very much for your photos. It helped me to see that the tips you have in all of your pencils are different from mine. I gave it a closer look under my microscope, and I beleiev that my tip is brooken. Also, there is “click” sound everytime I click to advance lead, which concludes that my pencil is broken. I think that what you have referred to the missing metal part of my tip as missing “sleeve.” I though that sleeve referred to the rubber insert.

Thank you sincerely for your help, really greatly appreciated. I also like your early 770s a lot. Nice colection you have.

I also just found this discussion about the 770s with nice images:

I believe you may be missing your rubber lead retainer. Looks to me that you have dirty metal only!

I double-checked and it is a rubber retainer. The microscope showed reflections because it is a digital one. I used a needle and the feel of rubber is there.

Also, the link I just shared shows exactly the same image for the rubber.

Strange that the rubber retainer doesn’t do its job anymore - potentially because of old age and oxidation?

I may have blown it because there was lead stuck in it, and I used a Dremel with a thin needle to clean it.
Also, it just occurred to me now that the tube on the end of the tip could still be there but pushed inside (retractable). @majkycz_y, would you, please, help confirm if the end tube is retractable?

As far as I know - fixed. And I doubt that a nib from another, newer pencil that is retractable would fit your pencil (the same thread)…

Aha!!! Now I know exactly what fixed refers to. Thank you very much for the enlightenment.

I did try to replace the tip from another Staedtler pencil and it didn’t work. The tube was not fixed, but I agree with you it might be infeasible to replace the tip from another pencil. However, I think it might be possible to replace it with a newer Micrograph; however, this is the only Micrograph I have so far.

STAEDTLER hasn’t produced tips for your version of MARS-770 in a long time (since 1975 at least) and I’ve checked with them in the past and there’s no spare tips lying around.

I also agree with @majkycz_y that your mechanism/tip are faulty. My MARS-770 and others I’ve seen do not have this lead falling out “feature”/issue. The retainer is probably damaged.
