Are you saying the button looks something like this on the right? If ‘yes’, then it’s highly unlikely to be a drafting type like an S-series.
The body was all black. There was writing on it - but it had been worn off (intentionally - as I preferred the all black look)
The body was almost identical to these - but all black
Yes, I think Platinum and Diplomat also had models like this. Perhaps others. Good find! From your collection?
Since Penac has a model, it is fairly safe to assume they were the OEM for a variety of brand labels that used this body. Penac is a huge manufacturer for other brands and they only release a few models with their own label.
The button was similar to the detached button in the photo. However, it was not as wide and it was slightly sloping, going out to the widest part then it was straight parallel with body (but of course wider) and then the very top was a very very flat cone almost imperceptibly conical. (Silhouette in attached image)
Was the body more like this or like the Penac posted by @svb-00 ?
I’d say more like the Penac ( maybe with one more grip line, but they were slightly closer together). Please keep in mind this was a very hard rubber.
One detail I do suddenly remember is that the cone (being just like the cone from a Pilot S10 - which I have never owned so cannot confirm that this detail is present in that model) but the cone was in two parts (which I only discovered later) - the center cone unscrewed from an outside ring - that itself screwed into the body.
If it helps - this pen was much heavier than it looked (again - one of the initial factors that prompted me to purchase it) - making you think that it was an all metal pencil with a black covering. It was quite nose-heavy (which I liked - being left-handed).
Maybe we could take a look at some photos of Pilot drawers that several users have shared here.
Starting to sound like the Birdie 300 to me…
Birdie is rather light though.
Indeed. Definitely not a Birdie.
It just occurred to me (after getting my first Pilot pencil in 30 years!) - that this pencil’s body was as narrow all the way down as the S Series pencil bodies are at the clip - thus - the S-Series-style cone and surrounding ring were that much narrower than the current S-Series pencils. Hope this helps, chums!
Pilot had a version of this, the H-165.
Welcome!
Thanks for the input - we’re getting closer - the black body of the H-165 looks exactly right - but this had a cone like an S20 (but narrower) but the brushed metal ‘mushroom’ button throws this out (unless it’s a much earlier model I’ve not found yet)!
Thanks! I’ve lurked for a while, finally decided to join.
Your wallet gets lighter but this forum and community is so nice.
PLUS the amount of information is unreal. I don’t buy a single unknown to me pencil without at least searching to see if it’s been discussed here.
hey @ThirdeYe welcome to the forum
Thanks!
