Much Older Japanese Mechanical Pencils!

Wow, this is such a great collection of information.

I have a theory—though I’m sure most collectors will disagree with me. It seems to me that ‘Sharp’ is the Japanese version of ‘Ever-Sharp,’ and maybe they had exclusive rights from Eversharp or C. R. Keeran to make Sharp pencils. The resemblance to Eversharp pencils is clear, especially with the arrow-shaped pocket clips!

Here are few prewar and one postwar pencil.

The two sets were sold by Daimaru, a large department store chain. The other is a gift to customers from a cosmetics company - note the cosmetic colors. On the right is a stainless VANCO. Bottom middle is a 1950s Comet. Company is C.M.T. Company thus Comet.

Will have a few more to post next week. This coming weekend is the LA Pen Show, Always enjoy digging through bins of used pens and pencils seeking lost gems. Never fail to find something as sellers never spend any time on anything that looks cheap or, heaven forbid, a pencil.

Vanco looks slick. Can you share a few more photos? Is that a lead case beside it?

I will also post some vintage Japanese pencils from the 1930s and/or 1940s here.

Lead ejects by turning the knurled wheel at the top of the pencil. Pencil was made as a corporate gift thus the writing.
