LION pencils (32XX is not worthy of the others)

Like the darn yellow Fuji Corona!

I have an unidentified Lion fineliner in one of their drawing instrument sets.

The fixed clip looks like those seen on the 31XX/32XX above, so presumably a lower-end model. I wonder why they didn’t include something with more obvious drafting credentials.

The set also contains a nifty 0.5 mm compass insert, similar to the type sold by Staedtler in the 1980s (likewise made in Japan).

I like it. That’s a really good looking pencil. It surprises me how sometimes the drafting sets are sold for cheaper than the individual pencils themselves from inside of them. That’s a beautiful pencil. I like the style of it. Simple and functional.

I acquired most of my Uchida pencils through drafting sets and now have more compasses than I will ever need lol

Cursed with the search for unobtanium.

Even with stickers you may be in trouble. I have a mislabeled Lion. 3250 sticker on a 3230.

Just one 3550 in 2019 (LINK) and not one single 3530.

Do you see the auction price at aucfree? Those links never work for me, unfortunately.

Fortunately for whomever won it… ¥4700

Stupid Instant buy obviously :-/

Back in 2019 it was still a good price… if you knew about LION. I think a lot of people outside of Asia didn’t know anything about that brand.

What are these for? Marking on metal, wood, clay? Leather work maybe?

I’m pretty sure it’s this…..

I prefer the lack of print. A much cleaner design (though I only get 0.3mm, so know exactly what I have).

I think their primary destination is “embossing” on paper: by using the various tips on a piece of paper, it is possible to get an effect of “raised ridges” which can be used to create motifs, abstract graphics, or flowery decorations.

I wonder if there’s some browser issue… or country restriction?

There’s two sites: Aucfree and Aucfan (Aucview.aucfan.com). Aucfree has better searching capability and shows ending prices but has a 10 year database limit. Aucfan doesn’t seem to have a year range limit, but you have to pay to get pricing. Bidding info is charged on both.

Must be a Country restriction, since I cant access regardless of device or browser.

Yes, sounds like it. Sorry to hear that. VPN maybe?

Yahoo Japan uses geoblocking which means that visitors from the EU can’t access it. VPN works but I don’t know if registrations from the EU are accepted.

Yes, probably the errors from aucfree are linked to the annoying geoblocking from Yahoo. Aucfan does work, however.

I have to try aucfree with a VPN.
