The Pro models look stunning. These are one of my favorite pencil designs visually. I love your photography work too
Mind if I ask how much did you pay for them? I’m curious to find out what “lot cheaper than retail” stand for as these are pretty pricey on Mercari right now: roughly 5800-7500 JPY each
And what has been your experience like using them? I also checked out a bunch of reviews (lol) and many of them kept saying the barrel rattles which you can feel in the hand, which they find unpleasant. But some say it’s not the case at all, so idk what to believe. Do your copies have this issue? Perhaps anything else you noticed?
I’ve forgotten the exact prices in Japanese yen, but converted to TWD, I paid around $100 USD for all three pencils. Two of them were purchased in the same order, which made the deal even better. With the yen being even more favorable these days, I recently went down the rabbit hole again. The prices were simply too tempting.
Since product photography for MPs involves shooting from such a short distance, I’m honestly still figuring things out myself. Especially because my setup doesn’t have any natural light, I have to rely heavily on artificial lighting.
I still have a long way to go before I can properly catch up with drifand. Thanks for being so kind about my photos.
I’ve had a chance to handle a collector friend’s limited edition AIMVISION Pro, and honestly, it felt no different from the regular Pro version in actual use.
For me, the mission of collecting this particular industrial design and mechanism has already been accomplished. At the current market price, it would only cost a little more to get another Faber Castell alpha matic Executive, and I was lucky enough to win a second one.
That made me much happier.
I don’t think the AIMVISION Pro will develop much of a premium in collector value down the road. The reputation is simply too divided, and the current market price is already getting pretty unreasonable.
That said, I genuinely love the mechanical feel and operation of it. That part is hard to deny.
Fortunately, none of the pencils I have have that rattling feeling when writing. There is some play between the barrel and the inside lead container inside, though.
They’re really beautiful pencils, but I personally prefer lighter pencils like the PG5, so I’m not sure how often I’ll actually use them
If you end up not using them, feel free to send them my way!
In my experience all pencils have some play/gap between the lead container and the outer barrel. They may emit a slightly noise in use but imho it’s so minimal it’s not really worth talking about. That’s why I found the reviews interesting who say this is an issue, I started to wonder if it’s a lot worse on these models for some reason
Early Pentel executive types (S55, ML5, etc.) had 3 pads attached to the inside of the outer barrel to stop this rattling. Here is a photo of the inside of my EDC Scepter P3005.
