A gathering of faceted designs

It is pretty neat

Upon further review: those round barrel Criterium…

The long one is 2513 and the “court” is 2213 ( not shown on the now famus link-list…aha..).
Both are pretty used, but the imprint/engraving is still readable and they work…

@lsd300 That reference page for Criterium pencils is extensive, but I consider it far from being complete, as we just discovered when you unveiled that round Criterium.

I have a few unanswered questions about the whole lineup; for instance:

• Is there an all-metal equivalent of the super-short 2313 (the model number might be 2303, as I see some consistency in the nomenclature)?
• Do all (old) plastic versions have an all-metal counterpart, such as e.g. a counterpart to the 2113 or 2513?
• Are the 2003 Steno and the C5 the only round-barrel models available with no or annular grip rings?

So many specimens to find, so much fog to clear out…

And then there’s the subtly faceted Rotring PS2 line also…

WOW
These are more my speed!
I’m not a Rotring enthusiast other than the 300 set and the 400 set I’m chasing because I love their plastic grip but these are definitely going to be on my list of searches if they’re even possible to find!!! I never even knew of their existence!

…the extent of my Rotring collection

Not that subtly faceted, if you ask me…

The PS2 has a somewhat rounder form factor, but in my view remains decidedly triangular; we are not talking about the level of a Schwann-Stabilo 8-9, but is is still noticeably triangular.

I used to have one, probably bought off of Andrey many years ago, but I ultimately let it go because I could not get used to its form, and kept gripping it in a way which did not satisfy my hand. It was a nice pencil, but an even nicer tradable specimen.

I wonder what “PS” meant, if it had any meaning at all.

Is this the K through R drawer? How did your Lions and Ohtos not make it?

That’s a pretty solid organizational way of doing it.
I have it more so along the lines of my “German” drawer

What I like about the Rotring PS2s, if you look at the lineup I showed, is how the red and white versions have ‘W. Germany’ debossed on the losenge and the others have the later ‘Germany’, presumably after the Berlin wall came down. Nice bit of political history and dates them nicely, pre and post 1989.

except

The “Germany” models have the old (pre-1983) rotring logo, whereas the “W. Germany” ones appear to have the newer logo.

Rotring used just “Germany” in the 1960s/70s, and only started using “W. Germany” in the eighties as far as I’m aware, reverting to just Germany some time in the early nineties. Even that is, as you say, a nice bit of political history.

I’m guessing that the “P” is for Primus (the PS2 was part of the educational Primus range, at least for a time). Maybe “S” for Stift? (obviously “2” for 2 mm…)
