I can see the resemblance in both the printing and the shape of the pencil, but it isn’t Skilcraft.
Alright, I shall not continue with uneducated guesses, haha! Prosper, on!!
@SlideRules
It is a Keenpoint (Dur-O-Lite) or Wearever. I guess more Wearever than Keen-Point. The ferrule is more Keen-Point (Dur-O-Lite), but the barrel is more “Wearever.”
Since you mentioned it is close to Autopoint, then against my guess it should be a Dur-O-Lite ![]()
Haha! Based on the clues/replies, I was going to suggest “Life-Long” and prosper!
Also, this tip reminds me of the “Ultra-Thin” Scripto pencil. It could actually be a Frankenstein-ish pencil with the “Ultra Thin” Scripto tip added to this pencil.
Alright, before you reveal the maker of the pencil.
I believe with 99.99% confidence this pencil is a Wearever pencil with the tip replaced from an “Ultra Thin” Scripto pencil (but the tip is also likely to be from another pencil, other than Scripto Ultra Thin).
I also believe that the Scripto Long Eraser (Model No. J-160) fits this pencil!
We have a winner!
Well, as far as I know, it’s just 100% Wearever. (Wearever by David Kahn, Inc. Hence the reason I chose a couple quotes from The Wrath of Khan.)
This is the only Wearever pencil I have, so I can’t confirm any possible changes that may have happened to it before I acquired it. Until recently, the only pencil I had ever “modified” was 15 years ago when I took the metal cone off of a Tradio and put it on a Quicker Clicker.
Now I’m curious to know if the tip of the Wearever is a replacement. Turning the barrel around the eraser is what propels the lead forward, at the same time it turns the tip. I don’t remember ever seeing a 0.5mm pencil like this and my first thought was that it was an older model, similar to the pencils I remember seeing on my great grandparents’ desk. Like I said before, this was what inspired my search for info on the earliest 0.5mm pencil.
Thank you for everyone’s input!
Yayyy!!!
I have seen many Wearever pencils, but never in 0.5mm with this model. However, looking at the Scripto Ultra Thin, I did not see the two parallel lines engraved on the tip, which means it is possible that Wearever added this 0.5mm line sometime to compete with Scripto, mainly because both produced these “long lead” pencils for the U.S. government as well as many telephone companies.
