Upcoming video: P1075 Iris

Hey guys. Thomas was kind enough to loan me his P1075 Iris set for a video.

It seems there’s not a lot of information out there about the Iris. We’ve got this page from 1978 that @nimrod found, but is that all we have?

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for the video? Thomas did toss a P875 into the package, so I’ll make sure to feature that too.

Unfortunately there’s not a lot of information out there about the P1075 but here’s what I’m thinking you could do…

Some vintage mechanical pencils take a long time to fully research, and waiting until every detail is uncovered can delay interesting content. What if you had a shorter video series where you introduce a pencil, share what’s currently known, and let the community know you’re re looking for more details? It keeps engagement up and might even help crowdsource new information. Maybe it could be called “Pencil Mysteries” or “Research in Progress” a way to document the discovery process while still creating valuable content.

I love this - thank you!!!

It may also be a way for you to start using YouTube shorts. That’ll also help with your channel exposure since Shorts gets such high engagement/views.

Per that catalog page, that is actually a P805.

I think this is one Pentel series where I am glad they made an ‘un-glam’ model in the P805. I’ve always felt the colorful alternating chrome stripes felt more at home with Mitukan or Chikyu… but they definitely have that 70s flavor!

I need some opinions:
The YouTube “experts” say that I should put each of my videos in at least 3 playlists.
So, for each video I have been making playlists based on:

  1. Manufacturer
  2. The “type or category” for that pencil (i.e. Executive, Drafting, etc.)
  3. They all get added to a playlist is simply “everything”

If you were to "categorize” the Iris, what “type” of pencil would you consider this to be?
If it’s a “hybrid”, what are the two types that it is a blend of?

Thanks for any suggestions -

I would call it an Executive style.

It is the standard Pentel Executive in that it is:

  1. A clicker
  2. Metal Body and Plastic Grip as separate pieces
  3. 2mm pipe on the Tip

that makes sense. Thank you

And
4. From the 1970’s

At first glance I thought the pinstripes may be a sticker but I’m pretty sure I’m looking at etched steel with paint (pardon my dirty microscope)

Now THAT is cool to see!

I love having a couple of microscopes in my shop. I used it way more than you’d think.

I’m hoping to get my hands on one with a digital out to HDMI or my camera. Right now I have to rest my iPhone on the eyepiece and “fiddle wit it”. But you are right - I use it more than I thought I would. This one, I got for free from work (we were tossing it). The internal light source is toast and we can buy new (nicer) scopes for what they want for the parts to fix. I was going to DIY it, but I’m lazy and have a flashlight lol

Yeah I have to do the same. I need to get an upgraded eyepiece to export to screen.

Here’s the one I use the most. It’s great for working on small items.
