Tombow SH-1000LP

Thanks! Probably the voiceover part. It’s takes me a bit to write the script, and usually requires 1-3 takes before i get it right.

Hopefully one day I’ll be confident and comfortable enough to just speak extemporaneously, but not there yet

I hear you. Extemporaneous speaking that is confident and fluid is a real major talent… the stuff of talk-show hosts and public speakers like Neil DeGrasse Tyson (I love his speech characteristics and presenting personality). But even when not fluid… one can still hold a room with a genuine and earnest personality like Adam Savage.

Most reviewers use a script… or at least paragraphs fully scripted and then outline notes for general thought exploration interleaved between them. I really enjoy the speaking style of Thoughty2 on YouTube. You can tell that he uses a teleprompter, but he has gotten so good at it that you think he’s speaking extemporaneously.

Anyway, I enjoy your presentation style. And great content too! I actually do learn a good bit from your reviews.

I love Neil deGrasse Tyson! Every time I’m in NYC, I visit the American Museum of Natural History, hoping to spot him at the Hayden Planetarium, but no luck so far. He does have an awesome way of speaking.

I’m happy to hear that you are getting something from the videos -

My good friend and housemate went to an Accelerate event (hosted by Pattern) out in Utah just last week (LINK). So she got to hear him speak and she was truly blown away. I wish I could’ve gone!

How often do you get out to NYC? If you ever do plan to come out again, we should have a little meet-up with local pencil nerds. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

not as often as I like, but I would enjoy that a lot!
I’ll be in upsate NY next month (my brother in law is getting married in the Adirondack Mountains) but that’s nowhere near.

Oh, wow – are you going to take a few extra days out there? The Adirondack mountains in the spring and early summer is a phenomenal place to be if you love the outdoors. Very majestic scenery.

yep! I can’t wait. I have a pontoon boat and a cabin in the woods rented for about a week (well, I only have the boat for 2 of those days $$!!).

I couldn’t agree more. Great job. You make me want to collect more. And that’s a good thing.

Thank you Thomas!

I thought the video was very good and maybe the perfect length for my attention span.
Ive since taken apart my sh1000lp and sh700lp.
I wanted to see if the tips could be interchangeable and what if any are the differences.
Ive found that my 700 and 1000 tips are exactly identical to each other and they do not have the extra bit as yours does in the video. I checked my 0.3 sh700lp and it also was identical.
Also, side by side it seemed that the only difference in mechanism was that the sh100lp was longer by a small amount.
To test i attempted to put the 700 mechanism into the 1000 and it fit very well but was not long enough to advance the lead.
Also the cap seemed just a smidgen wider on the 1000, just enough that i couldnt put the 700 cap on the 1000 mechanism.
However, i was able to put the 1000 mechanism into the 700 and it fit perfectly but was just a bit long.
It seems that the only difference between the two is the length. Both mechanism by appearance seem identical.
Im interested in whether

  1. the 1000lp mechanism fits perfectly into the 1500lp, and if they are visually identical.
  2. if they are identical then it seems that the only difference between all 3 are length and then a metal grip.
If this were true, the revelation wouldnt necessarily be a disappointment because their price point at the start wasnt very considerable, but it would make justifying the difference in current collector value seem to be inflated exponentially between models.

It would come down to what one values in their pencil because the length and balance point would vary between the three with each additional feature. But the heart of the pencil essentially would be the same.

I am glad you liked the video - thanks for checking the tip. When I measured my tips the 1000 was just a tad longer than the 1500, but my tip on the 1500 had a recess on the end

I know I’m a bit late to the party but apparently there’s also a 2mm leadholder that seems to use the same clip.

This one has the sharp W but the price is a bit steep if you only want the clip.

Excellent catch! The MONO Holder H-500MA is a pretty decent leadholder. I forgot I had them in another pen roll!

Good to know! If one comes around with a rough body but good clip, that could be a good buy.
