Hi,
I’m new to this forum.
I have a small collection of mechanical pencils.
Today I picked up this Pentel in a dowdy German shop. I live in The Netherlands, very close to the border, so I can hunt for stationary items in Germany.
Is this a Pentel Classic Deluxe S55? I checked out Dave’s mechanical pencils.
Thanks!

Thanks, you are right. From what period is this model? I guess it is not a current model?
The date codes I have seen are between 1979 & 1988. If you screw off the tip and remove the reservoir from the body, there should be a date code there in yymmdd format. Sometimes the lead y gets left off, and this is generally an 8.
I have more about these pencils and dating the pencils in the Pentel Pencil Identification Book. You can download that from this link here, although it is newer. Pentel Pencil ID Book v2024.01 Available

Thanks so much. I bought it NOS today in a German store. Paid €4,99… Tried to fibd a date code, but even with a flash light it was hard to spot…

Found the date code! 19790502…!
This means the pen is a month younger than it’s current owner…

Welcome to the forum @Jonah79
You got a good deal.
I wish other pencil/pen manufacturers would use date codes.
One of my favorite parts of collecting is finding out when they were made

Thanks!
Just incredible, that it sat in a shop for so long.
I tried to figure out the current collector’s value, but that’s hard.

I paid US$21.00 each for the 3 colors of PS45 pencils back in 2019.
